Signs & Symptoms

  • In bed, often not awake, minimal oral intake

  • Expect feet, lower legs, and hands to have a darker, bluish color

  • Decreased response to visual stimuli

  • Drooping of the mouth

  • Hyperextension of the neck

Clinical Signs

  • Terminal oral secretions

  • Apnea- not breathing

  • Decreased urine output

  • Loss of wrist pulse

  • Inability to close eyelids

  • Grunting
