Risk of fire

  • Smoking in the same room is never allowed
  • No heat source within 10 feet of the oxygen unit
  • No use of aerosol sprays, alcohol rubs/lotions/Vicks on or near the individual usingoxygen
  • No electrical outlets or extension cords within 10 feet of the oxygen unit

Risk of fire

  • The oxygen unit needs to be secured in place so it does not fall over or disturbed
  • Do not store or place under a bed or under clothing or blankets
  • Keep a fire extinguisher nearby

Usage guide

  • The Hospice Team will provide the oxygen unit/concentrator and the tubing If the tubing becomes soiled or damaged, ask the Hospice Team to change it
  • The hospice doctor or nurse will let you know what rate to run the oxygen
  • Familiarize yourself with how to turn the tank on and off. Ask the Hospice Team for help
  • Oxygen flowing through the tube into the nose can be drying. There are humidifiers thatcan help. Ask the Hospice Team for recommendations
  • Do not change the flow rate without asking your Hospice Team
